Get Hooked on Downtown Basalt
Nestled at the confluence of two Gold Medal rivers, Historic Downtown Basalt, Colorado is a picturesque mountain town full of hospitality — food, drink, and lodging — as well as arts, culture, and trend-forward retail shops.
Downtown Basalt is nestled at the confluence of two Gold-Medal rivers, the Frying Pan River and Roaring Fork River. Rivers and streams designated as “Gold Medal” by the Colorado Wildlife Commission are those considered to provide outstanding angling opportunities for large trout. These designations are given out sparingly and represent the highest quality aquatic habitat in Colorado. Fishing photos courtesy of Frying Pan Anglers.
Colorado has 12 "Gold Medal" rivers and streams designated by the Colorado Wildlife Commission. The Historic mountain town of Basalt is nestled between two of them; the Frying Pan River and the Roaring Fork River. These two rivers provide outstanding angling opportunities for large trout.
